Training Plan

Although we both ride a bit we appreciate we might need to do that little bit more in order to prepare for cycling over 1000 miles in 9 days!

Rather than taking the casual approach and start LEJOG without any training I think we'd both prefer it if we've done a massive amount of training, even if it means we are over prepared and have done much more than what we've needed to. Plus I'm willing to try anything if there is a slight chance it'll make our 1000 mile trip that little bit easier!

Currently both myself and Darren commute to work by bike, already we have started upping the mileage and have even altered our routes so they take in the biggest hills we can find. And by that I mean we cycle up the biggest hills, not down them!

We are both starting some gym work to build up a bit of strength and to help our general all round fitness as a bit of variation from being on two wheels. Going hand in hand with the training is making sure we eat a bit smarter, making sure we get the extra carbs/protein etc that we need to help us keep moving.

This Sunday (4th March) marks our first serious training ride where we will meet up and knock out around 50 miles, taking in as many serious hills (possibly even doing hill reps!) as we can manage. Once recovered I'll post details of how it went!

Our first major goal is taking part in the Wiggle New Forest Sportive on Sunday 15th April, at 83 miles the course should be a good distance to judge how much extra training we need to do! If we are feeling very adventurous there is even a possibility that we may ride 50 or so miles the day before riding 83 miles in the sportive, just to give us a feel for riding a decent distance over several days back to back.

Overall plan is to hit the hills as hard as we can, get used to riding big distances, generally get fitter and improve our diets.

Fingers crossed this will work!
